Watches are a special kind of accessory; not usually faddy, people more often than not ‘invest’ in a timepiece and hold onto it for a long time. Men and women alike generally only ever have a one or even two if they’re lucky – a formal one for dressier occasions and a casual one for everything else. Either way, it’s the favorite that gets worn most of the time, which leads to the fact that a person generally won’t wear a watch unless they actually like it.

Unless you require a timepiece for work there are several ways a person can gauge the time these days, so it’s not completely necessary to own a watch. My cellphone tells me the time in 3 different time zones and is with me wherever I go. Why do I wear a watch? Simple. I like it. I think it looks really cool. I get compliments from other people who think so too. It’s a great quality timepiece and so long as it doesn’t get lost somewhere I think I’ll have it for some time yet. It’s my investment.

Watches are also great presents. Because they are usually kept for a very long time, you can be sure the person you give it to will remember you for a long time to come. I know I do. The watch I’m wearing is a gift from someone. I received it as a Christmas present several years back.

Speaking of which, the Christmas season is steadily approaching and soon the stores (both on and offline) will be flooded with crazed shoppers scurrying to meet their gift giving needs come Christmas eve or similar gift-swapping get together.
